Snow Monkeys

Snow Monkeys

During our brief stay in Japan we went to see the Snow Monkeys that live in the wild in the Snow Monkey Park. They come to the hot spring because it’s hot and also because the park staff give them a little bit of food that is a little bit better than what they could find in the woods.Besides that there are no fences around the park and the monkeys are free to wander far away. They got really close to us, like in our face. They are mostly not afraid of humans. In Winter, they bathe in the hot spring and stay around it most of the time. It has become a very popular place to visit for a lot of Japanese people and more and more foreigners. You can watch the live web cam to see what the monkeys are doing and how many people come to visit and how close you get to the monkeys. Remember there is a 17-hour time difference with US West Coast so you want to watch it late afternoon or the feed will be black. You can click on the numbers on the left side to watch the last days snapshots though.
